Going Green

Many green foods are highly beneficial to health and good weight management so should be included whenever possible into your daily diet. However, the ‘green’ food that is best for slimming is green tea.

There are also many other claimed health benefits from drinking green tea, including scientific studies providing evidence of cardiovascular benefits, anti-stress, boosting the immune system and suppressing autoimmune disorders and improving cholesterol levels.

Green Tea

Japanese studies have show that green tea contains thermogenic (calorie burning) properties. This increases your body’s ability to burn calories and can help you burn fat more efficiently.

Green tea can also be relaxing and is full of powerful antioxidants. This is why green tea as part of a weight loss programme is so popular. Several daily cups can do more for your body than you could ever imagine plus it helps you lose weight.

Green tea does contain caffeine, although it’s negligible in comparison to coffee.

There aren’t any side effects associated with normal consumption of green tea, however, people with caffeine sensitivity should consult with their primary care physician prior to embarking on the green tea and weight loss program.

A green tea and weight loss program should be combined with a healthy diet and proper exercise. Drinking green shouldn’t replace a proper exercise routine and a healthy diet, but it can definitely make your slimming efforts more effective.

Green Tea Capsules and Pills

If you don’t like the taste of green tea or you find drinking several cups per day too much, you can get the same benefits in capsule and pill form.

Health Issues

One study indicated that drinking large quantities (over 20 cups per day) put extra strain on the liver. Consuming green tea within two hours of going to bed can cause sleep problems as green tea improves mental alertness, though the stress reduction benefits help if stress and anxiety is an issue.

Some people find green tea causes nausea, though this is uncommon.
