The Scent of Slimming Success

There are two ways in which scent can help you lose weight:

  1. Certain scents are known to suppress appetite and desire for food.

Scent Therapy Issues

A particular smell or scent can be made up of over 10,000 different pure scents and is a powerful emotional stimulator linked to personal experience. While certain scents are known to be appetite suppressors, they can also be linked to past events and experiences that produce a very different emotional reaction. This makes scent therapy a very complex science requiring specific knowledge and training.

Our sense of smell it our only sense that directly accesses the sub-conscious mind bypassing the conscious mind. This means that on being exposed to a particular scent, an irrational emotional response could occur before the conscious mind reacts to apply rational mediation to the sensed experience.

A scent can take you to past times and experiences instantly, for example, the smell of Plasticine instantly takes most people back to first / primary school memories and emotions.

Using Appetite Suppressant Scents

Using scents to suppress appetite has achieved mixed success. There are a number of scents that have achieved the desired results but don’t work for everybody, probably due to the above personal emotional attachments scents may possess.

Also, appetite suppressant scents must not be used to create a slimming environment, they must only be used as needed before meals, to suppress cravings and to manage stress, anxiety and emotional issues that lead to emotional or comfort eating. Over use will remove effectiveness, as will mixes using inappropriate blends and too high a concentration of essential oils.
